March 2014

Greetings from in situ studio!  We had a very action-packed month, with one house finishing construction and another house about to start construction!

Oz

As many of you already know, Ashley Ozburn’s last day in our office was last Tuesday. She has left for a new and exciting position at Studio Gang in Chicago – what an opportunity! In her time here, she contributed to the life, fun, and culture of the office and numerous projects, including StirhausCentury 21 Triangle Group, and the Sillings Residence. She has also helped connect us with the NCSU COD through teaching and the community through efforts like Activate 14.  Our clients and we are really going to miss her!

Medlin House

We are very excited to have finished the design of the Medlin House! Construction will start in April, and the house should be complete in early 2015.  This will be our second collaboration with Kemp Harris, Inc. Follow us on InstagramFacebook, and Twitter for the latest updates once the project breaks ground!

Sillings Residence

The house at Sillings Farm is complete! Thanks to Ashley Ozburn for her amazing work making this project a success and to Kemp Harris, Inc. for the their efforts to execute even the smallest detail to high level of quality. Ryan, Christine, and the kids have already moved in, and we are so thankful to have had the chance to work with them! We’ll be photographing the house in May, so stay tuned.

Thirst For Architecture

We are looking forward to hosting North Carolina Modernist House‘s May T4A event at our studio again this year on 05 15 14 from 6-8 pm. Last year’s party was a ton of fun, and we are sure this year will be no different! So, mark it on your calendar and stay up to date on developments via Facebook. It’s gonna be a fun evening of architecture, great people, good food, and drink!

Project Bauhow

This month, Erin visited two high schools participating in North Carolina Modernist House’s Project BauHow.“With support from the Kramden Institute, NCMH’s Project BauHow supports high school education through providing desktop  CAD computers and software to ninth and tenth graders around North Carolina.   Students then have an opportunity to test their learning through a design competition featuring a Modernist house.”While at McMichael High School in Mayodan, NC and Washington High School in Washington, NC, Erin spoke to students about the practice of architecture and even had the opportunity to sit down with several students to review their home designs for the upcoming Matsumoto Awards!

Materials for Design

Thanks to Victoria Ballard Bell and J. Patrick Rand for coming to our studio for a book signing and reception celebrating their new book, Materials For Design 2, on 03 05 14, hosted by So and So Books. Dozens of folks from the design and literature communities joined us, and Victoria and Pat gave an inspiring talk about the importance of materials in architecture. Learn more about the ideas behind the book at Victoria’s blog,Materials For Design.

Please contact us if there is any way we can help you.

Best.
