June 2017

We’ve had a busy June! Summer is heating up and the construction season is in full swing. We have several projects wrapping up in the next two months and several that are just coming out of the ground. Stay tuned for updates!

Matsumoto Prize – Taylor Residence

Voting for the North Carolina Modernist Houses‘ 2017 Matsumoto Prize is underway! The competition was created in honor of the late George Matsumoto, an architect who designed some of the most iconic sixties-era houses in the area. This year, we have entered the Taylor Residence. Cast a vote for your favorite house here.

New Construction [x3]

Construction has started on three of our recent designs – the Huang Renovatione, the Lamb Residence, and HUUS. With one in Durham, one in Chatham County, and the other near NCSU, we’ve been logging miles all over the Triangle for weekly site meetings. We are excited to be working with Fox General ContractingBuilder’s Unlimited, and Southeastern Properties on these three very different projects! Follow progress on our Instagramand Facebook feeds.

Trull House and Merkel Cooper House at the finish line!

The Trull Residence is six weeks from being finished. Exterior finishes are burnished block, Ipe, metal, and glass, and the program is divided between a solid private volume and an open public volume, connected by a glass hall. Bob Aiello has done an incredible job on the project. Merkel Cooper is almost complete in Troutman, NC, with just a few touch-ups remaining. Dopko Cabinetry has done a wonderful job creating a truly unique kitchen, and Ray Kelly of Kelly Custom Builders has been a pleasure to work with, coordinating a litany of subcontractors to complete a house tucked into the woods and designed for “lake-livin.” Stay tuned for photographs of completed projects this fall!

Song of the Month: “Leave a Trace” by Chvrches

If you visited our office at all this month, you likely walked in on a celebration hosted by CHVRCHES‘ 2013 album, “The Bones of What You Believe,” and the #2 track, “We Sink.” The electro-pop powerhouse of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty bring a confident and energetic mix of driving beats, synthesized runs, and spotless vocals. The influence of 1980’s pop is undeniable – musical allusions to MadonnaPrince, and Kate Bush are evident throughout the album. We’ve found that this one is best listened to with the volume at 11!

Please contact us if there is any way we can help you.

Best.
