Greetings from in situ studio! We have been working this month in a world transformed by snow and ice, walking to the office in our boots and staying warm with extra pots of coffee. Thanks to all the folks we work with who’ve been battling the weather the last few weeks to keep projects on-track. Take a look at what we’ve been up to here or on our website!
Gallo Pelón
This month we wrapped up construction at Centro Raleigh and Gallo Pelón Mezcaleria! It has been an honor and a pleasure to be part of this beautiful, community-supported project. Thanks especially to Angela, Marshall,Lysaght & Associates, Diversified Consulting Group, Tactile Workshop, Allied Fire Protection, and the whole team at Southeastern Properties and Development. The space looks and feels incredible, and we can’t wait to share a drink with you there soon – official opening this month! Cheers!
D’Loughy Residence
We’re excited to announce that the D’Loughy Residence is complete! The project is a dramatic second story addition to a historic Raleigh home that defers to the scale of neighboring houses. New light-filled spaces provide perched views of the home’s surroundings. Many thanks to Original Space and Lysaght & Associates for a fun collaboration!
Museum of Life and Science
Durham’s beloved Museum of Life and Science will soon be adding a Woodland Building and Restroom Building to their campus! Construction by CT Wilson Construction Company is slated to begin any day now. It has been a pleasure working with the museum and the contractor on these two buildings in the woods, and we can’t wait to watch them come to life.
Marriott
Two weeks ago, Erin and Matt visited the Marriott corporate headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland to meet with Marriott’s internal design team and discuss a new prototype for Courtyard by Marriott. This week, Marriott confirmed in situ studio will be one of four firms in the country considered to design the new prototype. We are excited about this potential first experience in hotel design, so stay tuned!
Lecture at Mississippi State University
Erin and Matt have been invited to give a lecture at the Mississippi State University School of Architecture on March 27 as part of the Harrison Lecture Series. Their lecture will focus on recent projects and the unique contexts that have inspired variety in their work. The lecture is at 4:00 pm and will be preceded by a lunchtime panel discussion.
Song of the Month: “Chess” by Petite Noir
As an office, we listen to a constant stream of music through Matt’s stereo system. To share our excitement, we’re debuting a new segment of our newsletter, Song of the Month. This month, we wanted to highlight Petite Noir’s excellent single, “Chess.” In the tradition of heartfelt new wave tracks (with hints of New Order and Bowie abound), the song builds to a sublime, emotional climax. The video is pretty great, too! (note: the song contains mild language at 0:57).
Detail of the Month: Trull Residence
