Happy Halloween from in situ studio! Its been quite a month – check out what we’ve been up to below!
Seventh Birthday!

Day of the Dead 5K

Racial Equity Institute

AIA Winston Salem | AIA Hampton Roads

Two weeks ago, Matt and Erin gave a talk to colleagues at the AIA Winston Salem membership meeting. Their talk focused on the talented future/young architects who have worked in the studio over the past seven years, in each case highlighting a project they were responsible for and, for those who have left the office, describing their accomplishments beyond the studio. Later that same week, Matt drove up to Virginia Beach to present the 2017 AIA Hampton Roads Design Awards at the Brock Environmental Center. Working with jurors Katherine Hogan of Tonic Design, Tony Patterson of patterhn ives, Tobin Smith of Tobin Smith Architect, and Johnathan Tate of OJT, Matt presented awards to Clark Nexsen, Stemann Pease Architecture, and Hanbury. Matt also saw several good friends, including Laura and Paul Battaglia of Studio Battaglia. Thanks to the staff of AIA Hampton Roads for hosting an amazing event!
National Charette Institute
in situ studio now has a certified charette planner on the team! Last week, Erin took a course organized by the National Charrette Institute and hosted at the American Planning Association in Chicago. She joined former in situ studio member, Ashley Ozburn (Oz), who has recently started her own practice in Chicago called AOA. A visit to the Chicago Architecture Biennial was the perfect way to celebrate the completion of the course!
House in the Forest
We are thrilled to be working with new clients on their home in the forest! The structure is situated to take advantage of views of a meadow to the west and overlook a creek to the east. A razor thin roof slopes with the natural topography of the site, first visible to guests as they enter via a tree-filled courtyard surrounded by stone walls. Arrival in the house reveals the warmth of a wood burning fireplace and full-height glazing looking outward to the woods and down to the creek. We can’t wait to develop this project in close collaboration with our very thoughtful clients, Durham Potter of Builders Unlimited, and landscape architect, Gregg Bleam!
HUUS
Construction at HUUS continues as electrical rough-ins and window installation have begun. The house interior features a unique lighting package that includes cove lighting, hidden LED strips, and lights designed by the owner himself! Unilux windows from our friends Beau and Warren at Mesa Quality look amazing and take us back to our trip in Germany last year. Installation of exterior finishes, including brick and charred wood siding, will begin in the next month! Stay tuned!
Please contact us if there is any way we can help you.
Best.
