April 2014

Greetings from in situ studio!  We are enjoying the sounds of rain on our roof and watching the leaves change to a bright, bright green. Take a look at what we’ve been up to here or on our website!

Mary Englund

We are excited to announce that Mary Englund will be joining our office tomorrow!  A native of Durham, North Carolina, Mary is an intern architect with experience in renovation and new construction projects, large and small. She is an alumna of the NCSU College of Design, from which she received a BEDA in 2009 and a Bachelor of Architecture in 2010. In recognition of her design work at NCSU, Mary received the School of Architecture Academic Achievement Award, the School of Architecture Faculty Award, the AIA Triangle Scholarship, and the Irwin E. Jones Travel Fellowship to support studies in Turkey and the Czech Republic. Following her time at NCSU, Mary practiced in the Triangle for two years before pursuing graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received the Graduate Division Award from the College of Environmental Design and completed her MArch in May 2013.

Mary worked as an intern at Weinstein Friedlein ArchitectsSzostak Design, Inc., and Duda/Paine Architectsand has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the NCSU College of Design as an adjunct faculty member. She lives with her fiancé around the corner from the office, where she loves to cook and dream up new projects. We are so happy to have her join us!

Thirst 4 Architecture

In the words of North Carolina Modernist Houses, on Thursday, May 15 from 6-8pm, “we return to the scene of last year’s huge party at in situ studio.” It’s going to be a huge party, folks, so come on by our office! It’s a free, informal happy hour, open to anyone who loves architecture!

The Chasen Residence has been selected to be of eight houses on the 2014 AIA Triangle Tour of Residential Architecture! The tour date is 10 11 14. Please join us then for an amazing day of architecture!

Century 21

The upfit we designed for Century 21 Triangle Group in North Hills is almost finished! Thanks to John Cooper and Matt Wood of Southeastern Properties and Development Company for their hard work! This new realty office was designed to establish a new format for realty offices – open to the public, driven by technology, and arranged for flexible agent use.

Carpenter Park

We are happy to announce that we are nearing completion on construction documents for a picnic and restroom shelter for Carpenter Park in Cary! The structure draws inspiration from nearby agricultural structures and will overlook a pond. Thank you to DHM Design and the Town of Cary for the opportunity to work on this project!

Erin at UNC Charlotte

Erin recently traveled to UNC Charlotte’s School of Architecture to participate in this year’s Graduate Thesis reviews. Twenty students presented work over the course of one day. The projects were incredibly inspiring and it was an honor to attend. Many thanks to UNC Charlotte for the warm hospitality and rich discussions about architectural design and research!
