Forest Shed

Chapel Hill, NC | 2025 | 366 unheated SF

The Forest Shed was the childhood hideaway of musician James Taylor. The structure is located downslope from the family home, above a creek, and under a canopy of mature oaks and beeches. The badly dilapidated structure was made of a concrete slab, parged CMU walls, and a simple wood roof covered with asphalt shingles. The project stabilized and reparged the walls, supported openings with new steel headers, and rebuilt and reclad the roof. The entry has been relocated to the patio side to bring visitors to the creek side and into the space along the long axis of the structure.
