NCSU Brooks Hall Improvements

Raleigh, NC | WIP | 5,323 SF

Brooks Hall is one of the original NC State University campus buildings that faces downtown Raleigh, built in the Neoclassical style in 1926 as the original D.H. Hill, Jr. Library. It has received several updates and additions in the last 100 years, but most notably the George Matsumoto modernist addition in 1955 – signaling a change in use from campus library to home of the recently-established School of Design. This addition remained largely untouched for 70 years, yet maintained it’s currency. The ground floor renovation replaces a subterranean fabrication space with new open classroom and research space for the College of Design’s PhD program. The project included the careful planning and coordination of new and future systems (MEP) and the reorientation to the College of Design Courtyard.
